PEEVED by inferences that Whobegotyou is suspect at the distance, Mark Kavanagh cannot wait for Cox Plate day.

For Kavanagh, it will be the day Whobegotyou - who made it back-to-back Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes victories at Moonee Valley - gets his shot at silencing the knockers.


He is puzzled why any query exists about Whobegotyou's ability to run out 2040m, given he won the AAMI Vase and Yalumba Stakes over the journey.


Whobegotyou's only failure at the trip was in last year's Cox Plate, but Kavanagh said the horse fell victim to the "bitumen" track.


"What are they talking about? I don't know what their story is, but I just train my horses and I don't listen to TV commentators who take a bus to work on a Sunday morning because they lost their money on the punt," Kavanagh said.

Peter Moody's pre-race announcement that Typhoon Tracy would, if possible, be ridden with a sit turned the race tactics on its head, but Kavanagh said he took little notice of all the swirling speculation of who would be where in the run.

"We just rode our horse to suit our race. 'Moods' (Moody) said, 'we're not going to lead', and at the end of the day their tactics are their business," he said.
