THE bloodbath for Brisbane bookmakers continued at Doomben yesterday with six of the eight favourites lobbing, including the last five on end.

It follows similar results in the previous two weeks and the satchel swingers are wondering when relief might come.

Rundle ($1.40), Cape Kidnappers ($1.35), Alltherightmoves ($1.90), Saraji ($2.10), Fillydelphia ($1.65) and Carry Me Bluey ($2.40) all lobbed to the cheers of punters, with the only favourites to miss being Sunset Affair (4th) in the two-year-old and Mossriver (2nd) who went down to the well-tried Hidden Kisses ($3.50).

"They all look hard to beat and they just don't seem to be getting beaten here at the moment," rails fielder Bruce Myers said.

"At this time of year there is normally a lack of depth among the chances, but you normally expect to get a result somewhere along the line, but it just doesn't happen here in Brisbane. It's gone on for an extended period now."

Myers said it wouldn't be so bad if other runners were being backed, but in many cases punters were happy to go one out on the favourite.

"Once upon a time you could lay the second favourite but the likes of Liesele and Dux Bellorum were unwanted, so you end up just having to keep winding the favourite off," he said.

Fillydelphia's win in the Listed Brisbane Handicap was her eighth career success and took her earnings to $320,000.

Owner-breeder Frank Wolber has the fickle yearling market to thank for the Bianconi mare now racing for him.

"We had her at the Magic Millions sale and wanted $20,000," Wolber said. "We got an offer for $17,000 and we said 'no, no, we will hang on to her'. It's worked out well.

"It makes it extra special when we have bred her ourselves. I have raced horses for a long time. I have bred a few and bought a few but when you breed them yourself and pick the sire, it is very rewarding."

Trainer Rob Heathcote unveiled a long-term plan to aim at next year's Tatt's Tiara (Winter Stakes) with Fillydelphia, who took control of the race when Jim Byrne set out after Rockdale soon after turning for home.

"She's a quality mare and I have always suspected the mile will be her pet distance," Heathcote said.

"I think she's an ideal Winter Stakes horse for next year's carnival and that will be her long-term goal."

Speedy filly Saraji may get her chance at 1200m next time after again proving too strong for three-year-old rivals in the Homestead Tavern Handicap (1110m).

"There's a 1200m race in a few weeks and in-between that there's another 1000 metre race and the QTIS money is very good," Baldwin said.
