PEEVED by inferences that Whobegotyou is suspect at the distance, Mark Kavanagh cannot wait for Cox Plate day.

For Kavanagh, it will be the day Whobegotyou - who made it back-to-back Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes victories at Moonee Valley - gets his shot at silencing the knockers.

He is puzzled why any query exists about Whobegotyou's ability to run out 2040m, given he won the AAMI Vase and Yalumba Stakes over the journey.

Whobegotyou's only failure at the trip was in last year's Cox Plate, but Kavanagh said the horse fell victim to the "bitumen" track.

"What are they talking about? I don't know what their story is, but I just train my horses and I don't listen to TV commentators who take a bus to work on a Sunday morning because they lost their money on the punt," Kavanagh said.

Peter Moody's pre-race announcement that Typhoon Tracy would, if possible, be ridden with a sit turned the race tactics on its head, but Kavanagh said he took little notice of all the swirling speculation of who would be where in the run.

"We just rode our horse to suit our race. 'Moods' (Moody) said, 'we're not going to lead', and at the end of the day their tactics are their business," he said.

"I just said to Michael (Rodd), 'mate, you are on the best horse in the race with the best record on the track and the sting is right out of it. You just ride him to suit, don't worry about anyone else'."

Kavanagh said Whobegotyou, a winner of five of his six starts at Moonee Valley, is likely not to run again before the Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 9.

"I think I might go the four weeks, now that I have him pretty right," he said.

"We'll have him right for this day in six weeks' time.

"He's had a really good preparation this time, because I gave him a good, long spell after last spring."

Whobegotyou ($3 to $2.70 to $3.10) stalked Typhoon Tracy, ($4.40 to $4) then flushed her out with about 600m to travel.

With Rodd riding confidently, Whobegotyou swept away to a two-length win from Typhoon Tracy, with another length to Shoot Out ($3.10 to $2.70 fav).

Bookmakers reeled in Whobegotyou from $13 to $6 second favourite for the Cox Plate behind So You Think, $4, who pleased with an exhibition gallop, while Shoot Out drifted from $6 to $13.

Moody was pleased with Typhoon Tracy, but lamented the mare again had to do the "donkey work".

"I was rapt. I wanted to swap the runs, I wanted to be behind Whobegotyou and we would have beaten it," Moody said.

"She's the best horse in the land doing all the donkey work for everyone else. We would like the others being the donkey for us."

John Wallace wasn't disappointed with Shoot Out who, he said, raced on the worst part of the track.

"I was happy with his run. I just wish he had been out where they were," Wallace said.

He said Shoot Out would now head to the Turnbull, miss the Caulfield Cup before returning for the Cox Plate.

"I'd like another shot at them," he said.

Nick Hall said Zipping, back from a six-month spell, was "fresh" and closer than usual, but there was much to like about his fifth. Steve Arnold said Precedence, fourth, was strong all down the straight.
